Plating Thickness Grades

Thin 0.05μm: Fast fashion, wears off in 2-4 weeks. Cost: $0.07/pc.

Standard 0.1-0.2μm: 1-2 years everyday wear, best value. Cost: $0.2/pc.

Thick 0.5-1μm: 3-5 years wear, EU retail standard. Cost: $0.6-0.8/pc.

EU Export Standard

REACH requires nickel release below 0.5μg/cm²/week. Thick plating blocks nickel leaching. For Germany and Nordic markets, specify 1μm rhodium in your contract.

Customer Complaints

Early plating wear is the #1 reason for silver jewelry returns, 40% of complaints. Always specify plating thickness in the PO: "rhodium plated 0.3μm minimum".
