What is Lost Wax Casting?
Lost Wax Casting (Investment Casting) is a 5,000-year-old metal forming process. Modern jewelry uses it for nearly all complex pieces: openwork pendants, detailed rings, 3D earrings.
Process
- Wax model: 3D printed or hand-carved wax of each piece
- Tree assembly: 20–50 wax models attached to a wax sprue
- Investment: Tree dipped in plaster slurry, 6–8 layers
- Wax burnout: Steam/oven melts out the wax, leaving a plaster cavity
- Pouring: 925 silver melted at 900°C and poured in
- Knockout: Plaster broken after cooling, revealing the silver tree
- Finishing: Cut, file, polish, plate
Precision & Cost
Tolerance ±0.1mm, capable of 0.3mm openwork details. MOQ typically 50 pieces. Unit price decreases with volume: 50 pcs highest, 500 pcs −20%, 1000 pcs −35%.
